Dr. James “Jinx” Richard Jennings of South Boston died Thursday, Sept. 20, 2012, at his home.
He was born in Halifax County, on Feb. 21, 1948 and was 64 years old. He was the son of the late Richard Thornton Jennings and Alice Elvira Owen Jennings.
Prior to his retirement, he was a consultant with The Chinese Human Resources Group in Princeton, N.J.
He graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1971 with a degree in political science and a minor in history. He attended the University of North Carolina from 1973 to 1977 and studied Chinese language and literature.
In 1980, he received his Masters degree from Georgetown University. From 1980 to 1981, he attended the Chengchi University in Taipei, Taiwan, studying ancient Chinese characters.
From 1981 to 1986 he studied at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. and received his doctorate based on his dissertation, “Principals of the Chinese Script: A Study of Structural Design - A Technical Execution Approach and Theories as to Additional Application.”
Mr. Jennings is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth “Liza” Owen Jennings, of Richmond; his sister, Patricia Jennings Lemons, of Florida
; one nephew, Sean Lemons, of Florida; one aunt,
Frances Owen Anderson, of Halifax.
The family received friends at Powell Funeral Home Saturday afternoon from 4 to 6 p. m.
