Mr. James Melvin Satterfield Sr. of 10163 Mountain Road, Vernon Hill, died Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012, at his home.
He was born in Halifax County on Nov. 17, 1927 and was 84 years old. He was the son of the late Jeanus Farmer Satterfield and Lillie Belle Whitlow Satterfield and was married to Hester Mae Lindsey Satterfield who survives.
He was a retired supervisor from ABB and was a member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church where he was a former deacon, trustee, choir member and superintendent of Sunday school.
Survivors include his wife, Hester Mae Lindsey Satterfield, of the home; two daughters, Betty S. Moore, and husband Jerry of Halifax and
Melinda S. Lewis and husband Wayne of Woodworth, La.; one son, James Melvin “Jay” Satterfield Jr., and wife Anna of Vernon Hill; seven grandchildren, Randy Moore, Michelle Holland, Michael Lewis, Lindsay Lewis, Brittany Lewis, Jason Satterfield and Johanna Satterfield;
five great-grandchildren,Brayden Moore, Briley Moore, Bryant Holland, Brann Holland and Mia Lewis.
He was preceded in death by one grandson, Nathan Moore, and by one brother, Marion “Boots” Satterfield, and one sister, Hazel S. Sours.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2012, at 3 p.m. at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill Wilkins and the Rev. Doug Cole officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home and other times at his home.
