Willie ‘Pops’ Freeman

Mr. Willie ‘Pops’ Freeman of Martinsville, formerly of Halifax County, died Sunday, Sept. 9, 2012, at the age of 77.

Mr. Freeman was born in Halifax County on Jan. 29, 1935, to the late Mr. Haywood Freeman and Mrs. Lucille Palmer Freeman and was married to the late Mrs. Shirley Robertson Freeman. He was a member of ASK Church of God in Christ in Collinsville.

Survivors include two daughters, Ms. Angela Freeman and Ms. Tonja Freeman, both of Martinsville; four sons, Elder Willie Haywood Freeman and wife Elizabeth of Collinsville, Mr. Jonathan Freeman and wife Tomeka of Martinsville, Mr. Darryl Freeman and wife Linda of Roanoke and Mr. Michael Freeman of Albany, N.Y.; 16 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Louise Freeman Martin of South Boston and Mrs. Barbara Freeman Williams and husband Aaron of Union Springs, Ala.; one brother, Mr. William ‘Billy’ Goodrich of Albany, N.Y.; and a host of other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents and wife, two sisters, Mrs. Lillie Mae Freeman Tune and Mrs. Annie Freeman Burns, also preceded Mr. Freeman in death.

Funeral services will be Friday, Sept. 14, 2012, at 1 p.m. at Stanfield-Miller Funeral Home in Martinsville with Elder Willie Haywood Freeman officiating.
