Edgar Conrad Bowlin

Edgar Conrad Bowlin, 71, husband of Peggy Ann O’Brien Bowlin, passed away early Thursday morning at his home in Fort Myers, Florida.

Conrad was born Sept. 14, 1940 in Chesterfield, to the late David Russell Bowlin Sr. and Barbara Clementine Kreft. He married the love of his life, Peggy, on July 16, 1957.

Conrad Bowlin was a true business entrepreneur. His love of community was shown by his continued involvement and interest in the development of various enterprises wherever he lived. In 1966, he and Peggy moved to Wilmington, N.C. where he founded Southern Brokers Limited, a hotel brokerage firm. He was also instrumental in supporting his son in the local musical community during the 1970s and 1980s. He acquired the Lake Motel in 1972. However, it was not until 1978 that he moved to Clarksville to make his home with his family.

When he and his family located to Clarksville, he worked and established himself within the lake community. During those earlier years, he and Peggy owned and operated Conrad’s Restaurant.

Conrad was also a licensed Real Estate Broker in eight states. He spent these years as an ever-present ambassador of Clarksville Commerce. His exceptional accomplishments include founding and providing vision for the Clarksville Economic Development Association; serving as an active member of the Community Memorial Healthcenter Board, acting as vice president for the Mecklenburg County Community Services Corporation, serving on Clarksville Town Council and participating on the board of the Economic Development Association for the county.

In addition to these civic interests and duties, he was active in the Clarksville Presbyterian Church as an elder and session member.

Conrad Bowlin accumulated various awards for his civic contributions such as Citizen of the Year, he also held the Richmond Ski Club’s President’s Cup for multiple years, and he earned the #1 bib in his division of NASCAR racing in Virginia. Because of his fondness for skiing, he also helped found the Clarksville Ski Club.

Conrad was an accomplished pilot who achieved the highest licensure possible and was a member of the Q B Society in Wilmington, N.C.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Edgar Conrad Bowlin Jr. of Wilmington, N.C., Donna Bowlin Garner of Clarksville, Cherie Bowlin Madison and son-in-law Chad Linwood Madison of Clarksville.

His grandchildren, Michael O’Brien Bowlin Jr. Harrison Hundley Bowlin, Kenneth LeGrande Thigpen, III, Christian Ann Bowlin, Constance Michelle Garner and Natalie Abbitt Madison also survive him. Bowlin of Powhatan; sisters Barbara Bowlin Hunnicutt of Saxe and Nancy Bowlin Grady of Goochland; daughter-in-law Martha Hundley Bowlin of Clarksville; and sister-in-law Patsy D. Bowlin of Powhatan also survive.
