Mr. Lionel Parker Perkins Jr. of South Boston died Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2012, at his home.
He was born in Halifax County on Aug. 6, 1934 and was 78 years old. He was the son of the late Lionel Parker Perkins Sr. and the late Lillian Evans Perkins and was married to Susan Harris Perkins who survives.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church in South Boston and also attended in the First Baptist Church of Sister Bay, Wis. He was also a lifetime member and past- president of the Lacy Bible Class and a former deacon and Sunday school teacher. He was a 1956 graduate of the University of North Carolina, a U.S. Army veteran and former owner of Perkins Drug Store.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Perkins is survived by two sons, Lionel Parker Perkins III and wife Sarah of Cary, N.C and Louis Allen Perkins and wife Katie of Huntsville, Ala.; two stepchildren, Elise Mebel of Maui, Hawaii and Lee Mebel of Denver, Colo.; four grandchildren, Lionel Parker Perkins IV, Chloe Perkins, Will Perkins and Elizabeth Perkins; and a number of cousins.
Funeral services for Mr. Perkins Jr. were held at First Baptist Church at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 9, 2012, with the Revs. Dave Anderson and Jack Stewart officiating. A luncheon followed in the fellowship hall of the church.
