Mr. Samuel Lacy “Sonny” Riddle Jr. of 501 Cheverly Drive, South Boston died Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2012, at Halifax Regional Hospital. He was born in Danville on June 22, 1950 and was 62 years old. He was the son of the late Samuel Lacy Riddle Sr. and Frances Hudson Riddle and was married to Brenda Banton Riddle who survives. He was a member of Black Walnut Baptist Church, was retired from the Halifax County School System after 31 years of service, was a staff writer for the Gazette Virginian newspaper, and was a former radio newscaster with WHLF.
In addition to his wife, survivors include one daughter, Sara Frances Riddle of Buffalo Junction; one son, Samuel L. “Chip” Riddle III and wife Ashley of South Boston; two grandchildren, Riley Thomas Riddle and Brantley Warren Garner; and his mother-in-law, Betty Doss Banton of Rustburg.
A funeral service for Mr. Riddle will be held Sunday, Aug. 5, 2012, at 3 p.m. at Black Walnut Baptist Church with the Revs. Raymond Wooten and Don Bryant officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 6 to 9 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home and other times at his home.
