Mr. Ernest Broughton (Onion) Nichols of 1024 Shady Lane, South Boston, died Tuesday, July 24, 2012, at McGuire Veteran’s Hospital in Richmond.
He was born June 29, 1945 and was 67 years of age.
He was the son of the late John Earl Nichols and the late Effie Francisco Nichols and is survived by his wife of 42 years, Corlis Lacks Nichols.
Mr. Nichols was a Vietnam veteran, a member of American Legion Post 8 and VFW Post 243, Vietnam Veteran’s of America Chapter VA0840.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Nichols is survived by two daughters, Melissa C. Bowen and Matt of Raleigh, N.C. and Dr. Elizabeth Nichols of Richmond; one grandson, Wyatt Bowen of Raleigh, N.C.; two brothers, Richard (Dick) Nichols of Clover and Wayne Nichols of Halifax.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Davis Nichols.
Funeral services were held at Powell Funeral Home Chapel, Friday, July 27, at 2 p.m. Burial followed in the Clover Cemetery.
The family received friends at Powell Funeral Home Thursday from 7-8:30 p.m. and other times at his home.
