Dorothy May Guth, at the age of 82, passed away from heart failure Saturday morning, July 21, 2012, at 8 a.m., at Halifax Regional Hospital.
She had returned to the hospital last week after feeling very ill and was unable to overcome further events in spite of the excellent hospital care.
Her entire immediate family was at her bedside during the final hours to give her support. She was much loved and will be greatly missed.
Dorothy is survived by her husband of 63 years, Richard J. Guth, of South Boston; her daughters, Judy Parfit of Ohio and Marlene Giglio of South Boston; and her son, Joseph R. Guth, of Chesapeake. Also surviving are son-in-laws Tom Giglio and Rich Parfitt; five grandchildren, Joey Guth, Christy Guth, Barry Parfitt (wife Natalie), Brittany Stefanchik (husband Tim), adopted son Danny Guth and daughter Lilith.
Dorothy devoted her life to raising her children and many foster children.
She was a good cook and enjoyed cooking for others.
She was a beautiful woman inside and out, being generous to all.
She was preceded in death by her beloved dog, Patty, and other pets.
Family will receive friends at Halifax Memorial Gardens at a memorial service on Monday at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Leukemia Lymphoma Society or the local humane society.
