Catherine Lucille Puryear

Mrs. Catherine Lucille Puryear, age 87 of South Boston, died Saturday, July 21, 2012, at the Woodview.

She was born in Granville County, N.C. on March 29, 1925 to the late Willie Frank Elliott and the late Annie Bray Elliott.

She was a member of First Baptist Church and Fidelis Sunday school class. She retired from Wabash Magnetics in 1987. She was a true southern lady, a warm gentle spirit but fiercely independent and strong.

Lucille was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Lawrence Puryear Sr., in 1998 and four brothers, Garland, Julius, Robert and Warren Elliott.

Mrs. Catherine Lucille Elliott is survived by one daughter, Diane P. Eaton, and friend Rob of South Boston; one, son, Richard L. “Pete” Puryear Jr., and wife Mary of Greensboro, N.C.; one granddaughter, Kelly A. Hill, and husband Jeff of South Boston; one great-granddaughter, Abby Kathryn Hill, of South Boston; two sisters, Peggy E. Forlines of Nathalie and Gail E. Wade and husband Frank, of Henderson, N.C.; five brothers, Otis Elliott and wife Jean of Nelson, Elvin Elliott and wife Uzelia of Oxford, N.C., Clifton Elliott and wife Betty of Nelson, Ralph Elliott and wife Marie of Bullock, N.C., Owen Elliott and wife Shirley of Oxford, N.C.; step-grandchildren Quinn, Corey, Josh and Victoria; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 24, 2012, at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dave Anderson officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at First Baptist Church.

The family would like to give special thanks to the caregivers of the Woodview, Boston Commons and the Halifax Regional Hospice for their excellent care.
