Mr. Roy Hampton Pruett of Paces died Monday, July 16, 2012, at his home. He was born in Halifax County on June 10, 1931 and was 81 years old. He was the son of the late Cornelius Jefferson Pruett and Virginia Mae Cook Pruett and was married to Mary Ann Long Pruett who survives. He was a retired Major with the Halifax County Sheriff’s Department, was a member of Mercy Seat Presbyterian Church, where he was a former deacon and elder, and was a lifetime member of the Turbeville Volunteer Fire Department.
In addition to his wife of 60 years, survivors include one daughter, Susan Pruett Clarke and husband Barry of Paces; three sisters, Virginia P. Dalton and Irene P. Ingram, both of Sutherlin and Lillie Owen P. Ivey of Salem, Ala.; four grandchildren, Tyler Hampton Clarke of South Boston, Elizabeth Ann McDaniel of Danville, Rebecca McDaniel Robertson of Charlottesville, and Kathryn Earl McDaniel of Lynchburg; one great-grandson, Logan Hampton Clarke of South Boston; and one son-in-law, Earl McDaniel of Paces.
One daughter, Deborah Pruett McDaniel, also preceded Mr. Pruett in death.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 19, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Powell Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Dan Ward and the Rev. Dr. Ed Melvin conducting the service. Burial will follow at First Crossroads Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Powell Funeral Home Wednesday, July 18, 2012, from 7 to 9 p.m. and other times at his home, 5014 Melon Road, South Boston.
