Mr. Harold Newman Sr. of Bold Springs Road, South Boston died Friday, March 23, 2012, at Halifax Regional Hospital at the age of 88.
Mr. Newman was born in Chatteroy, W.Va. on April 3, 1923, the son of the late Mr. John Newman and Mrs. Mary Crawley Newman. He was married to the late Mrs. Mattie Sue Terry Newman and served as a deacon and Sunday school superintendent of Christ Temple Blue Rock Church of the Apostolic faith.
Survivors of Mr. Newman include two daughters, Mrs. Connie Miller and husband Henry, and Ms. Priscilla Perry, all of South Boston; one son, Mr. Harold Newman Jr. of South Boston; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchilden; three sisters, Ms. Myrle Henderson, Ms. Pauline Cooper and Mrs. Jessie Boyd and husband Robert, all of Patterson, N.J.; and a host of nieces, nephews, including the devoted Mr. Alphonso Terry Sr. and Mr. Alphonso Terry Jr.; and a host of other relatives and devoted friends.
In addition to his wife and parents, one sister, Mrs. Alice Ramsey; and three brothers, Mr. Lowell Newman, Mr. Frederick Newman and Mr. John Newman Jr., also preceded Mr. Newman in death.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 29, 2012, at 1 p.m. at Dan River Bethel Baptist Church with the Rev. Dwight Wilkerson and District Elder Donald Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 8 p.m. at Jeffress Funeral Home, and all other times at the home of Ms. Priscilla Perry, 4100 Bold Springs Road, South Boston.
