Melvin Willard Phillips, 75, of 2009 Aarons Creek Road, Virgilina passed away June 20, 2012. He was born June 18, 1937 in Halifax County to the late James Henry Phillips and Irene Elliott Phillips. He was married to Sylvia Tingen Phillips and was of the Mormon faith.
Mr. Phillips was a retired mechanic with Burlington Industries.
In addition to his wife, survivors include three daughters, Susan P. Daniel and husband Ken of Sutherlin, Connie Bray and husband Greg of Oxford, N.C. and Wanda Rowan of Virgilina; one son, Alan Scott Phillips of Hillsborough, N.C.; two sisters, Linda Lambert and husband Wayne of Vernon Hill and Jean Schraden and husband Tilghman of Woodbridge; one brother, Charlie James Phillips and wife Sandra of Virgilina; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
One son, Robert Bray, also preceded Mr. Phillips in death.
The family will receive friends at Brooks Funeral Home on Saturday, June 23, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and other times at his home.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, June 24, 2012, at 3 p.m. at Brooks Funeral Home with the Revs. Larry Davis and Eddie Mauldin officiating. Burial will follow in Hitesburg Baptist Church cemetery.
