Mrs. Gracie Marie Sanford Poindexter of 1833 Jefferson Avenue, South Boston died June 14, 2012 at Halifax Regional Hospital at the age of 73.
Mrs. Poindexter was born in Halifax County on July 10, 1938, and was the daughter of the late Mr. Dock Sanford and Mrs. Delia Henderson Sanford. She was married to the late Mr. Leo V. Poindexter and was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Gloria P. Stovall and Ms. Detra L. Poindexter, both of South Boston; one son, Mr. Leo N. Poindexter of Baltimore, Md.; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Lelia Sims and Ms. Delia Sanford, both of Baltimore, and Mrs. Elvira Carden of South Boston; one brother, Mr. Roy L. Sanford of South Boston; one son-in-law, Mr. Thomas Stovall; and a host of nieces and nephews, including the devoted Ms. Amy Vaughan.
Funeral services for Mrs. Poindexter will be held Monday, June 18, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses with Elder Ladon Chappell conducting the service. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
The family is receiving friends at the residence. Public viewing for family and friends will be Sunday, June 17, from noon until 6 p.m. at Jeffress Funeral Home chapel.
The family would like to give special thanks to Ms. Karen Morris and the staff of Personal Home Care for their assistance during their mother’s illness.
