Mr. James Lee Barbour of Florence, S.C. and formerly of Halifax County died Thursday, June 7, 2012, at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence, S.C. at the age of 80.
Mr. Barbour was born in Halifax County, Jan. 29, 1932 to the late Mr. Alberta Benjamin and Mrs. Luendia Dixon Barbour. He was married to Mrs. Claudette Dozier Barbour and was a faithful supporter of Hickory Grove Baptist Church in Nathalie. He was a U.S. Army veteran who served in the Korean War.
Mr. Barbour is survived by his loving wife, Claudette Dozier Barbour, of the home; one daughter, Valerie Machado, of Brooklyn, N.Y.; one son, James Barbour, of Middletown, N.Y.; five grandchildren, Marcus C. Machado, Alexis G. Barbour, Eden Barbour, Victoria C. Machado and Alisia C. Machado; one daughter-in-law, Wilma Barbour of Middletown, N.Y.; four sisters, Betty Barksdale of Halifax County, Thelma Smith of Stafford, Louise B. Carr of Bowie, Md. and Wilma E. Barbour of Brooklyn, N.Y.; two brothers-in-law, Alexander Smith of Stafford and William Carr of Bowie, Md.; one sister-in-law, Julia E. Shields of Currituck, N.C.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Barbour was preceded in death by a sister, Alice Wicks.
Funeral services for Mr. James Lee Barbour will be held Wednesday, June 13, 2012, at 2 p.m. with services at Hickory Grove Baptist Church in Nathalie with the Rev. Therman Betts officiating. Burial will follow in the Barbour Family Cemetery in Nathalie.
Public viewing for Mr. Barbour will be Tuesday, June 12, 2012, at the chapel of Jeffress Funeral Home from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m.
