Graveside services for Mrs. Ruthe Adams Slate will be held, Friday, June 8, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Pleasant Grove Christian Church with the Revs. Ann Davidson and George Gorman officiating. Ruthe was a real confederate granddaughter of the late Daniel Thomas Slayton. She was the daughter of the late Charlie Henry Adams and Rosa Bessie Slayton Adams and was married to Henry Osbey Slate who died in February of 1987.
Mrs. Slate was a graduate of Dan River High School and attended Averett University, University of Virginia School of Nursing and was a nurse for 43 years having retired from the office of Sparks and McCarty. She was a member of Pleasant Grove Christian Church, a UDC member, an auxiliary member of American Legion Post 8 and an active member of the South Boston YMCA.
Mrs. Slate is survived by two daughters, Page S. Burns of Little River, S.C. and Cecile S. Ford of South Boston; one granddaughter, Amanda Ruthe Ford Vernon of Alton; two great-granddaughters, Sarah Ruthe Vernon and Mary Matsu Vernon, both of Alton.
Visitation will be held at the church for one hour prior to the service and other times at the home of her daughter, Cecile and Hunter Ford.
