Mrs. Lessie Morris Wilborn of 11243 Huell Matthews Hwy., Alton died Thursday, May 31, 2012 at her daughter’s home. She was born in Halifax County on Sept. 10, 1911 and was 100 years of age. Mrs. Wilborn was married to the late George Elwood Wilborn Sr. and was the daughter of the late Jessie Morris and Mattie Lowery Morris. She was a homemaker and a member of Glenwood United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Lessie Morris Wilborn is survived by five daughters, Clara Thaxton of Portsmouth, Ruby Manning of South Boston, Elsie Reaves and husband Allen of Alton, Mary Combs of Halifax and Mattie Thrower and husband Wayne of South Boston; three sons, Billy Wilborn and wife Brenda of Alton, George E. Wilborn Jr. and wife Ruth of South Boston and Jimmy Wilborn and wife Sharon of South Boston; one brother, Berkley Morris and wife Lavonne of Roxboro, N.C.; 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Wilborn was preceded in death by her husband, George Elwood Wilborn Sr.; her parents, Jessie Morris and Mattie Lowery Morris, grandson, Neil Thrower, two sisters and three brothers.
A funeral service was held at Brooks Funeral Home Chapel Sunday, June 3, 2012 at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Bob Woodfin, Rev. George Gorman, Pastor Chris McGee and the Rev. Bonnie Pizzeck officiating. The family received friends at Brooks Funeral Home on Saturday, June 2, 2012 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and other times at the home of Elsie and Allen Reaves, 2181 Turbeville Road, Alton.
