Thomas Dewey Vaughan

Mr. Thomas Dewey Vaughan, 75, of 2084 Horseshoe Trail, Alton died Saturday, Oct. 31, 2009, at Halifax Regional Hospital.

Born May 30, 1934, he was the son of the late Herbert Watkins Vaughan and Susie Wilborn Vaughan. He lived his entire life in the South Boston area and was retired from Burlington Industries.

Survivors include his wife, Nellie C. Vaughan of the residence; two sons, Howard T. Vaughan and Mark A. Vaughan; one daughter, Teresa V. Turner, all of Danville; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one sister, Barbara V. Conner and husband, Charlie, of News Ferry, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Three brothers, Otis, Randolph and Preston Vaughan; and four sisters, Mary Daniels, Addie Henderson, Emma Bass and Erma Jane Hammock, also preceded Mr. Vaughan in death.

The family received friends from 7 until 8:30 p.m. Nov. 3 at Powell Funeral Home and other times at the home of his sister and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. Charlie B. Conner in News Ferry.

Funeral services for Mr. Vaughan will be conducted at 11 a.m. Nov. 4 at Powell Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Billy Coghill. Interment will follow in Halifax Memorial Gardens.

Charles Edward Ashby, 63, of Stage Coach Road, Nathalie passed away Thursday, April 12, 2012, at home.  He was the husband of Deborah Wright Ashby.

Nancy Weatherford Blanks Jarrells

Mrs. Nancy Weatherford Blanks Jarrells of 3026 Ball Park Loop Road, Halifax died Friday, April 13, 2012, at her home. She was born in Halifax County on April 7, 1945 and was 67 years of age. She was the daughter of Dolly Mae Richardson who survives.

Kathleen Perkins Clark

Mrs. Kathleen Perkins Clark of Nathalie died Wednesday, April 11, 2012, at Halifax Regional Hospital. She was born in Halifax County on March 29, 1919 and was 93 years of age. She was the daughter of the late John William Perkins and Garnett Long Perkins Clark and was married to the late William Artie Clark.

Selestine Womack Glass

On Monday morning, April 9, 2012, our beloved mother, grandmother, aunt and friend was called to her heavenly home. She was born Sept. 1, 1949 in Halifax County to the late Jack Womack and Edna Barksdale Womack. At a young age she accepted Christ and joined County Line Baptist where she remained a faithful member until her death.  She was formerly employed by Dan River Mills and cleaned homes for many years. 

Alfred J. ‘Bud’ Tyler

Alfred J. “Bud” Tyler, 74, of Richmond passed away Tuesday, April 10, 2012, after a brave battle with cancer. He died peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones.
