Mrs. Julia Geraldine Glass Powell, 61, of Halifax died Tuesday, April 10, 2012, at the residence of her daughter, Shonda Easley, 4020 James D. Hagood Highway, Halifax.
Born Aug. 7, 1950 in Halifax County, she was the daughter of Adell Ferrell Glass and the late Luther C. Glass. She was married to Michael Powell, who preceded her in death.
She was a member New Zion Baptist Church, a member of the senior choir, Pastor Aid Ministry and Missionary Board. She was employed by Tultex for 20 years.
Julia was predeceased by three siblings, Allison, Jimmy and Russell Glass.
In addition to her mother of Vernon Hill, survivors include four children, Shonda Easley of Halifax, Tammie Pannell (Robert) of Beltsville, Md., Michael Powell Jr. (Wakenia) of South Boston, and Luther C. Powell of Bland; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; three sisters, Shelia Wimbush and Peggy Glass, both of Vernon Hill, and Annette DeJournette (Cleveland) of Danville; two uncles; seven aunts; her father-in-law, Earl C. Powell (Inez); three brothers-in-law; three sisters-in-law; nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
A funeral service for Mrs. Powell will be conducted Saturday, April 14, 2012, at l p.m. from New Zion Baptist Church, Nathalie, by the Rev. Willie Yancey. Burial will be in the church cemetery
The family is at the residence of her daughter, 4020 James D. Hagood Hwy, Halifax.
