Deacon Benjamin Roy Chandler of Virgilina died Thursday, April 5, 2012, at The Woodview nursing home at the age of 93.
Mr. Chandler was born in Halifax County on Nov. 9, 1918 and was the son of the late Mr. Raymond Chandler and Mrs. Rosa Guy Chandler and was married to Mrs. Marie Veola Chandler. He was a member of White Oak Fork Baptist Church where he served on the board of deacons.
Mr. Chandler is survived by his wife, Mrs. Veola Chandler; one daughter, Mrs. Elaine C. Edmonds, and husband Fred of Pamona, N. Y.; two sons, Mr. Leroy Chandler and wife Shirley of South Boston and Mr. Charlie Chandler and wife Gail of Virgilina; two sisters, Mrs. Louise Bradshaw of Roxboro N.C. and Mrs. Fair May Dewey of Hampton; 15 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; eight-great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Mr. Chandler was preceded in death by two daughters, Mrs. Eva Medlock and Mrs. Beatrice Briggs; two sisters and four brothers.
Funeral services for Mr. Benjamin Roy Chandler will be held Monday, April 9, at 1 p.m. with services at White Oak Fork Baptist Church with the Rev. Glenn Faulkner officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence, 2164 Ramble Road, Virgilina.
Public viewing for family and friends was held Sunday, April 8, from noon until 4 p.m. at Jeffress Funeral Home.
