Mr. Robert Fulton Overstreet Sr. of 1708 Wilborn Avenue, South Boston died Saturday, April 7, 2012. He was born Aug. 31, 1926 in Halifax.
He was the son of the late Charles Carrington Overstreet and Annie Crews Overstreet of Halifax.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Eleanor Richardson Overstreet.
Mr. Overstreet was a member of Mt. Nebo Baptist Church in Charlotte County and was an active member of AA celebrating over 37 years of sobriety.
Survivors include three daughters, Patricia Ann Overstreet Hogate and husband Sid of Kernersville, N.C.; Lucinda Carroll Overstreet Mitchell and husband William of Yorktown; Shirley Anne Overstreet Townsend of Farmville; two sons, Robert Fulton Overstreet Jr. and wife Linda of Keysville and John Carrington Overstreet of Rural Hall, N.C.; 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Survivors also include brother Jim Overstreet and wife Adrian, sister Margaret Overstreet Ferris and husband Bill; sister-in-law Gerri Crim; brother-in-laws James Richardson of New York and Jeff Richardson and wife Jenny of Iowa.
He also left behind several dedicated friends including many special friends from AA and the South Boston Speedway.
Funeral services for Mr. Overstreet will be held at Powell Funeral Home chapel Tuesday, April 10, at 2 p.m. with the Reverend Jimmy Lewis officiating.
The family will receive friends and family at Powell Funeral Home on Monday, April 9, from 7 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Halifax Hospice, 2204 Wilborn Avenue, South Boston, VA 24592 and the AA program in your community.
