Mr. James B. Carr Sr. of South Boston died Friday, March 16, 2012, at the VCU Medical Center in Richmond. He was born in Halifax County on April 1, 1938 and was 73 years old. He was the son of the late James Medley Carr and the late Mary Elizabeth Carr and was married to Dot Greeley Carr who survives.
He was a member of the Black Walnut Baptist Church and an active representative of the Dan River Baptist Association.
Mr. James Carr is survived by his wife, Dot Greeley Carr of South Boston; one son, James “Jimmy” B. Carr Jr. and wife Donna of South Boston; one daughter, Jane Carr Poates and husband Scott of Yorktown; four grandchildren, Stefanie and Jaci Poates, Amanda D. Walker and April W. Powell; two great-grandchildren, McKenzie Rudder and Laci Powell; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one son, Jason Charles Carr; and one brother, Reuben Carr.
Funeral services will be held Monday, March 19, 2012, at 2 p.m. at Black Walnut Baptist Church with the Rev. Raymond Wooten officiating. Burial will follow in Halifax Memorial Gardens.
The family will received friends Sunday, March 18, 2012, from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home and other times at his home, 1062 Cluster Ridge Trail, South Boston.
