Mr. Tom Ivory Chandler, 66, of 1149 Crystal Hill Road, Crystal Hill died Sunday, March 11, 2012, at his residence after several months of declining health. Born Sept. 30, 1944 in Halifax County, he was the son of the late Archie H. Chandler and the late Annie Barksdale Chandler. He was married to Janis Inez Bates Chandler, who survives.
In addition to his parents, one brother, Henry Archie Chandler, preceded him in death.
Mr. Chandler was a Jehovah Witness and was employed by Georgia Pacific Company until his health declined.
In addition to his wife of the home, survivors include a daughter, Angela C. Scott of Crystal Hill; two grandsons, Darrell L. Chandler (Jennifer) of Halifax and Edward Pinkard (Dalishia) of Crystal Hill; two great-grandchildren, Braelyn I. Chandler and Amiyah E. Pinkard; a sister, Lola C. Howerton (Frank) of Danville; four devoted nieces, Patricia Curtis, Tamla Gillian, April Faulkner and Sandra Bailey;three aunts, Georgia Owens of Richmond, Catherine Chandler of Halifax and Ella B. Dunkley of Albany, N.Y.; one uncle, Bryant L. Dunkley (Janis Mae) of South Boston; six brothers-in-law; three sisters-in-law; and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Mr. Chandler will be held Saturday, March 17, 2012, at 1 p.m. at The Crawford House in Halifax. Minister Linwood Chappell will officiate. Burial will be in the Chandler family cemetery.
Viewing will be Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at The Crawford House in Halifax.
