Mr. Freddy “Hammer” Canada of Beulah Road, Nathalie died Sunday, March 11, 2012, at his residence at the age of 69. Mr. Canada was born in Halifax County on Jan. 11, 1943 to the late Mr. Charles Edward Canada and Mrs. Carrie Jennings Canada. He was first married to the late Mrs. Jeraline Chambers Canada and later married Mrs. Theresa Brown Canada. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Meadville.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two daughters, Ms. Jackie Canada of the home and Ms. Lovey Canada of New York, N.Y.; five sons, Mr. Donnie Canada and Mr. Mark Canada, both of South Boston, Mr. Michael Canada and Mr. Dyrian Canada, both of Nathalie, and Mr. Jerry Brown of Md.; 21 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ms. Mary Coleman of South Boston and Ms. Georgie Jennings of Halifax; two brothers, Mr. Willie Canada and Mr. Hunter Canada, both of Halifax; two god-daughters, Ms. Janice Boyd and Ms. Yolanda Guy, both of Connecticut; his mother-in-law, Mrs. Barbara Faulkner; one son-in-law; four daughters-in-law; one brother-in-law; three sisters-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, two brothers, Mr. Lewis Canada and Mr. James Canada; and two sisters, Ms. Dorothy Canada and Ms. Rosa Canada, also preceded Mr. Canada in death.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 17, 202, at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Meadville with the Rev. Robert Wimbish officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family is receiving friends at the residence, 5033 Beulah Road, Nathalie. Public viewing will be Friday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at The Crawford House chapel in Halifax.
