Mr. Wayne Montague Whitlow of Alton died Tuesday, March 13, 2012, at his home. He was born in Danieltown on July 17, 1926 and was 85 years old. He was the son of the late Henry Edward Whitlow and the late Katherleen Zell Blanton and was married for 60 years to Mary Lea “Dixie” Willson Whitlow, who survives. He was a member of the St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Arlington, founder of Wayne Insulation, former owner of Alton Diner, and a 50-year member of the Optimist Club- Arlington Chapter and a U. S. Navy veteran.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Whitlow is survived by four children, Janet Lea Clover and husband George of Fort Myers Beach, Fla., Richard Wayne Whitlow and wife Dona Dickinson of Great Falls, Dr. John Blanton Whitlow, and Mary Whitlow Otte and husband Robert, all of Falls Church; three grandchildren, Cheryl Lea Henneberry, John Michael Henneberry, and Domenic Anthony DiEdwardo; two great-grandchildren, Amaris Henneberry and Tiana Henneberry; two sisters,
Virginia Carwile of Pamplin and Evelyn Marshall of Appomattox.
Funeral services for Mr. Whitlow will be held at Powell Funeral Home chapel Saturday, March 17, 2012, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Russell Lee officiating. Burial will take place in Columbia Gardens Cemetery in Arlington.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home for one hour prior to the service and other times at the home, 2053 Jeffress Trail, Alton.
