Mary Harrison Vaughan Driscoll

Mrs. Mary Harrison Vaughan Driscoll of 1313 Hodges Street, South Boston died Thursday, March 8, 2012, at The Woodview.  She was born in Halifax County Oct. 26, 1916 and was 95 years of age. She was the daughter of the late William Rogers Vaughan and Mary Turnbull Vaughan and was married first to the late Dr. Brown H. Carpenter Sr. and then to the late Dr. Pat Driscoll.

Mrs. Driscoll was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church and was on the executive board of the Diocese of Southern Virginia. She was a former columnist with the News & Record having written the column “Yours Truly.”

Mrs. Mary Harrison Vaughan Driscoll is survived by one daughter, Sarah Carpenter Tuck, of South Boston; one son, Brown H. Carpenter Jr., and wife Linda of Virginia Beach; five grandchildren, Hutch Carpenter III of San Francisco, Calf., Samantha DeGroot of Summerville, S.C., Helen Carpenter of Cary, N.C., Catherine Glass of South Boston, Rebecca Tuck White of Phoenix, Ariz.; 14 great-grandchildren.

Two brothers, Judge Robert Vaughan and William R. Vaughan Jr., preceded her in death.

Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Harrison Vaughan Driscoll were held at Trinity Episcopal Church Sunday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Gary Butterworth officiating. Burial followed in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
