Mrs. Bernice Seamster McCraw of 1100 Sam’s Trail, Nathalie died Wednesday, March 7, 2012, at Henrico Doctor’s Hospital in Richmond. She was born in Halifax County on April 26, 1939 and was 72 years of age. She was the daughter of the late Robert Alfred Seamster and Margaret Wade Seamster and is survived by her husband, Bernard Lacy McCraw. Mrs. McCraw was a member of First Baptist Church of Millstone.
In addition to her husband, survivors include one daughter, Rita H. Compton and fiance’ John R. Merritt of Halifax; three sons, J. Michael Heath and wife Rita of Trinity, N.C., David Lee “Beanie” Heath of Halifax and Sam A. McCraw and wife Brenda of Nathalie; two sisters, Faye S. Kean of Nathalie and Joyce S. Cheek and husband Richard of Mount Laurel; eight grandchildren, January Heath of Los Angeles, Calif, Erica Salas of Dallas, Texas, Lauren C. Comer of Vernon Hill, Leigh E. Compton of Halifax, Ellen H. Fulp of Sophia, N.C., Emily Nicole Heath of Greensboro, N.C., Rachel Anne Heath of Trinity, N.C. and Brittany Coursey of Lynchburg; and one great-grandchild, Savannah Grace Compton of Timberlake, N.C.
One brother, Jerry Allen Seamster, also preceded Mrs. McCraw in death.
Funeral services will be held at First Baptist Church of Millstone on Saturday, March 10, 2012, at 2 p.m. with the Revs. Lloyd Moore and Rob Blake officiating. Burial will follow in Liberty United Church of Christ cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Powell Funeral Home on Friday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and other times at her home.
