Mrs. Anna Murphy Blanks of 11149 Philpott Road, Alton died Sunday, March 4, 2012, at her home. She was born Nov. 10, 1931 and was 80 years of age. She was the daughter of the late Ernest Clayton Murphy and Eva Wilbourne Murphy and is survived by her husband, Marshall L. Blanks. Mrs. Blanks was a member of Second Baptist Church of South Boston.
In addition to her husband, survivors include four children, Wayne C. Blanks and wife Kaye of Hampton, Brenda Church and husband Jim and Michael A. Blanks and wife Melissa, all of Huddleston, and Sherri B. Hodnett and husband Linwood of Bedford; two sisters, Marie M. Garrett and husband James of Martinsville and Margaret M. Edwards and her husband, the Rev. William Edwards of Asheville, N.C.; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
One sister, Berta M. Farmer; and one brother, Watson Murphy also preceded Mrs. Blanks in death.
Funeral services will be held at Dan River Baptist Church on Friday, March 9, at 2 p.m. with the Revs. Dan Ward and Doug Gibson officiating. Burial will follow in Black Walnut Baptist Church cemetery.
The family received friends at Powell Funeral Home on Thursday, March 8, from 6 to 8 p.m. and other times at her home.
