Mrs. Lucille Dunkley Stephens of Landover, Md. and formerly South Boston died February 25 in Landover, Md. at the age of 69. Mrs. Stephens was born in Halifax County on April 17, 1942 and was the daughter of the late Mr. Abraham Dunkley and Mrs. Pearl Bowman Dunkley. She was married to the late Mr. Willie James Stephens, Sr. and at an early age joined Mt. Olive Baptist Church.
Mrs. Lucille Dunkley Stephens is survived by five daughters, Mrs. Rosa Curtis of Landover, Md., Mrs. Pearl Smith and husband Mitchell of South Boston, Ms. Maxine Stephens of Atlanta, Ga., Ms. Jacqueline Jackson and Ms. Carla Stephens, both of Landover, Md.; two sons, Mr. Willie Stephens Jr. and wife Sharon of Halifax and Mr. Andrew Stephens of South Boston; 17 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ms. Mary Ennis of Upper Marlboro, Md., Mrs. Martha Thorpe of Greenbelt, Md.; five brothers, Mr. Benjamin Dunkley and Mr. Frank Dunkley both of South Boston, Mr. Milton Dunkley of Richmond, Mr. Douglas Dunkley of Miss. and Mr. James Dunkley of N.Y.; three brothers-in laws, Mr. Wallace Stephens, Mr. Donnell Stephens and Mr. John Ennis; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Mrs. Lucille Dunkley Stephens will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at The Crawford House chapel in Halifax with the Rev. Sandy Palmer officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Garden Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the home of Ms. Monica Martin, 200 Glendale Drive, South Boston. Public viewing for family and friends will be Friday from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. at Jeffress Funeral Home in South Boston.
