Mr. Joseph Traynham Jr. of 213 Leigh Street, South Boston died Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2012, at his residence at the age of 83. Mr. Traynham was born in Crystal Hill on April 4, 1928 to the late Mr. Joseph Traynham Sr. and Mrs. Winnie Bates Traynham. He was married to the late Mrs. Bessie Coles Traynham and was a United States Army veteran.
Survivors include two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Minnie Traynham of Crystal Hill and Mrs. Ada Traynham of Philadelphia, Pa.; his nephew, Mr. Reginald Traynham of the home; a devoted cousin and friend, Ms. Catherine Chandler of Halifax; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his wife and parents, one sister, Agnes Traynham; and five brothers, Elrex, James, Thomas, Kyle and Roger Traynham, also preceded Mr. Traynham in death.
Funeral services will be Sunday, Feb. 19, at 2 p.m. at The Crawford House chapel with the Rev. James Traynham officiating. Burial will be in Rose Garden Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
Public viewing for family and friends will be Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Jeffress Funeral Home.
