William John Conner of 2006 Vaughan Street, South Boston passed away Sunday, Feb. 12, 2012, at Halifax Regional Hospital at the age of 76. Mr. Conner was born in Halifax County on Nov. 28, 1935 the son of the late Melvin Beck Conner and Martha Jones Conner.
Mr. Conner was a machine operator at Burlington Industries, Inc. and was of the Baptist faith.
William John Conner is survived by his wife, Shirley W. Conner of South Boston; three sons, Melvin Wayne “Jimbo” Conner, Ronald Alan Conner and Jeffrey Dale Conner, all of South Boston; one sister, Clara Ann Conner of South Boston; four grandchildren, April Carter and husband Jamie of Vernon Hill, Brian Compton of Fort Sill, Okla. and Melissa Ann Conner of South Boston, Amanda Brooke Conner of South Boston; one great-grandchild, Taylor Mae Carter of Vernon Hill.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Melvin Beck “Pete” Conner Jr., Dinky Conner, Andrew “Mutt” Conner and Samuel Richard “Big Boy” Conner; four sisters, Dora Lee Propst, Elizabeth “Kiki” Green, Shirley Puryear and Daisy Milam.
Visitation for William John Conner will be held Monday, Feb. 13, 2012, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Brooks Funeral Home and other times at the home.
A graveside service will be held Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2012, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. John Eure officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge cemetery.
