Mr. James Thomas Carr of Richmond, formerly of Halifax County, died June 24, 2011 at McGuire’s Veterans Administration Medical Center at the age of 83. Mr. Carr was born in Halifax County on March 7, 1928 and was the son of the late Henry Carr and Mrs. Sirlena Ewell Carr. He was a member of Sunflower Baptist Church and was a Korean War Army veteran.
Mr. Carr is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Darlene Carr-Greene of Alexandria; two sons, Mr. Dexter Carr and wife Shamika of Aurora, Ill. and Mr. James C. Carr of Bowie, Md.; four grandchildren; one sister, Dr. Bessie Carr of Nathalie; three brothers, Mr. John Carr of Halifax, Mr. Robert Carr and wife Bettie Mae of Brooklyn, N.Y. and Mr. William Carr and wife Louise of Bowie, Md.; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Mr. Carr will be held Thursday, June 30, 2011, at noon at Sunflower Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert M. Tucker officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors by American Legion Post #99.
Public viewing for family and friends will be Wednesday, June 29, 2011, from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. at The Crawford House chapel in Halifax. The family will receive friends at the church on Thursday following the service.
