Alice Christine Strickland passed away at her residence in Parks Edge Home in Tulsa, Oklahoma Dec. 9, 2010 at the age of 89.
Alice was born in Halifax County and was one of 11 children of the late Arthur Linwood Strickland and Ada Lillian Crews Strickland.
She was preceded in death by her daughter: Marilyn Denise; four brothers: Aubrey, Alvin, Charles and Thomas Strickland; and three sisters: Frances Strickland, Elizabeth Saunders and Linwood Guthrie.
She was a devoted mother to her three daughters: Ann, Denise and Teresa. Alice was a skilled seamstress, an outstanding cook, and loved to be with her family and friends. She was very creative and crafty, and her crochet work was beautiful and unmatched.
Alice put her love and expertise into every stitch and made many special items for her family and friends. She was known as a very hard worker and as someone who was always willing to help a family member or friend in need.
Alice is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law: Ann Northey and Milton A. Northey of Suffolk and Teresa Klein and Rick Klein of Tulsa, Oklahoma; one brother and sister-in-law: Lee Strickland and wife Julie; two sisters: Spotswood Davis and Jean Oakes; four grandchildren: Leslie Northey Letzinger and husband Steve, Paul Northey and wife Gina, Paul Klein and Sarah Klein; and two great-grandchildren: Jordan Northey and Grace Ann Letzinger. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A funeral will be held on Saturday, Dec. 18, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Millstone in Nathalie, with the Rev. Rob Blake officiating. Burial will follow at Westhampton Memorial Park, 10,000 Patterson Avenue, Richmond.
