Martha S. Yesalavich

Martha Ann Sutton Yesalavich, 84, of Verona, widow of John Anthony Yesalavich, of 120 Lee Highway, died Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2009, at her residence.

She was born Oct. 30, 1925 in Verona, a daughter of the late Everett and Louella Critzer Sutton.

She attended Verona United Methodist Church where she was very active in church activities.  She volunteered with the American Cancer Society for over 30 years and was a caregiver for numerous neighbors.

In addition to her husband of 61 years, she was also preceded in death by a daughter, Ann Yesalavich; a sister, Janet Foley; and two grandsons, Cpl. Dwayne Yesalavich USMC, and David Yesalavich.

Family members include two sons and daughters-in-law, John M. and Peggy Yesalavich of Churchville and Joseph A. and Jackie Yesalavich of Republican Grove; a daughter and son-in-law, Janet Yesalavich and David H. Zimmerman of Albemarle County; a twin sister, Mary Simmons of Verona; five granddaughters, Debra Stogdale, Karen Leach, Christina Hudson, Angela Yesalavich, and Maggie Zimmerman; seven great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Amelia Link.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m.  Monday, Nov. 30, 2009, in Verona United Methodist Church by the Rev. Matthew D. Bates Jr.  Burial will follow in Shenandoah Baptist Church Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Charlie Stogdale, Jeremy Leach, Danny Link, Rocky Simmons, Michael McCray, and George Weller.

The family received friends from 3 until 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 29, 2009, at Henry Funeral Home and other times at her home.
