Mr. Ollie Addison Hackney, 85, of 1015 Quail Lane, Halifax died Sunday, Nov. 22, 2009, at The Woodview. He was born in Halifax County on Sept. 5, 1924 the son of Ollie Green Hackney and Bessie Taylor Hackney and was first married to the late Leaone Watts Hackney, and then to Hattie Gordon Hackney, who survives.
Mr. Hackney was a member of Dan River Baptist Church, was a retired construction foreman, and was a World War II Navy Veteran.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons, David A. Hackney and wife, Vickie, of Ringgold, and Mark A. Hackney and wife, Joan, of Sunset Beach, NC; two stepdaughters, Iris R. Seamon and Ilor R. Whitlow, both of South Boston; one stepson, Mitchell G. Seamon of Virgilina; one sister, Martha H. Powell of Halifax; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild- seven step-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren.
One sister and four brothers also preceded Mr. Hackney in death.
Funeral services will be held today, Nov. 25, at 2 p.m. at Dan River Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Doug Gibson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family received friends Nov. 24 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Brooks Funeral Home, and other times at the home.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Dan River Baptist Church, 1228 Dan River Church Road, Halifax 24558 or the charity of your choice.
