Richard William Carrington, 74, of Suffolk died Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2009, at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.
Mr. Carrington was born in Halifax County on Oct. 17, 1935, the son of the late Charlie West Carrington and Bettie Bailey Carrington. He was married to Rose Eva Bostic Carrington for 49 years. He was a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Nathalie, and was retired from Northeast Utilities in Danbury, CT. Mr. Carrington also served in the U.S. Air Force from 1956-60.
Survivors include his wife, Rose, of Suffolk; son, Kevin Bryan Carrington of Bridgeport, CT; daughter, Kathy Lynn Carrington, also of Suffolk; brother, Harry Carrington; and sister, Beatrice Britton, both of Halifax; sister, Marion Crawley of Richmond; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Eight brothers, Hugo Carrington, Hilton Carrington, Quinton ‘Vate’ Carrington, Kermit ‘Cap’ Carrington, Edwin Carrington, Charlie Carrington, Clifford Carrington, and Collins Carrington; and one sister, Theresa Carrington, preceded Mr. Carrington in death.
Viewings will be on Monday, Nov. 23 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Jeffress Funeral Home, 2000 N. Main Street, South Boston and one hour on Tuesday, Nov. 24, before the funeral services at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church. The funeral services will start at noon with the Rev. Winton Hill and Rev. James E. Traynham officiating; burial will follow.
