Dinkey Conner, 85, of 719 Magnolia Drive, South Boston died Monday, Nov. 16, 2009, at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Mr. Conner was born in Halifax County on Nov. 18, 1923, the son of the late Melvin B. Conner and the late Martha Jones Conner and was married to the late Patricia Elsie Hopkins Conner. He was a member of Ash Avenue Baptist Church and a retired employee of Burlington Ind., Inc., Halifax.
Survivors include one son, David Conner of Chapel Hill, NC; one daughter, Elizabeth Black of South Boston; one grandson, Dexter Bomar; one granddaughter, Laura Leigh Moody, two sisters, Bonnie Conner and Daisy Milam, both of South Boston; and one brother, John Conner of South Boston.
Two daughters, Deborah Conner and Sharon Conner; three sisters, Elizabeth Green, Dora Propst and Shirley Puryear; and three brothers, Melvin ‘Pete’ Conner, Andrew Conner and Sammy Conner, also preceded Mr. Conner in death.
Funeral services will be held at Ash Avenue Baptist Church Thursday, Nov. 19, at 4 p.m. with the Rev. John Eure officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Brooks Funeral Home on Nov. 18 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and other times at the home.
