Mr. Thomas Dewey Vaughan, 75, of 2084 Horseshoe Trail, Alton died Saturday, Oct. 31, 2009, at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Born May 30, 1934, he was the son of the late Herbert Watkins Vaughan and Susie Wilborn Vaughan. He lived his entire life in the South Boston area and was retired from Burlington Industries.
Survivors include his wife, Nellie C. Vaughan of the residence; two sons, Howard T. Vaughan and Mark A. Vaughan; one daughter, Teresa V. Turner, all of Danville; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one sister, Barbara V. Conner and husband, Charlie, of News Ferry, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Three brothers, Otis, Randolph and Preston Vaughan; and four sisters, Mary Daniels, Addie Henderson, Emma Bass and Erma Jane Hammock, also preceded Mr. Vaughan in death.
The family received friends from 7 until 8:30 p.m. Nov. 3 at Powell Funeral Home and other times at the home of his sister and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. Charlie B. Conner in News Ferry.
Funeral services for Mr. Vaughan will be conducted at 11 a.m. Nov. 4 at Powell Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Billy Coghill. Interment will follow in Halifax Memorial Gardens.
