Mr. Howard Thomas Hodges Sr. of 1158 River Road, South Boston died Friday, Oct. 23, 2009, at Halifax Regional Hospital at the age of 80.
Mr. Hodges was born in Halifax County on Jan. 25, 1929 to the late Mr. Wyatt Hodges and Mrs. Hester Ewell Hodges. He was married to Mrs. Carry Chalmers Hodges and was a member of Berry Hill Baptist Church.
Mr. Howard Thomas Hodges Sr. is survived by his wife, Mrs. Carry Chalmers Hodges of the home; two daughters, Ms. Susie Hodges of South Boston and Ms. Mary M. Hodges of Richmond; three sons, Mr. Howard T. Hodges II of Copperas Cove, TX, Mr. Kenneth Hodges Sr. and Mr. Ronnie Hodges, both of South Boston; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Mary Hodges of South Boston; one sister, Ms. Brenda Edmunds of Philadelphia; two brothers-in-law; three sisters-in-law; two special friends, Mrs. Deborah Sims and Mr. Jack Carter; his devoted caregiver, Ms. Ruth Ni; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Hodges was preceded in death by one son, Mr. Willie W. Hodges; one grandchild, Ms. Nyshya Hodges; five brothers, Mr. Carson Hodges, Mr. Frank Hodges, Mr. James Hodges, Mr. Drewey Hodges and Mr. Joe Hodges; four sisters, Ms. Shirley Hodges, Mrs. Teresa Easley, Mrs. Annie Powell and Ms. Mary Hodges.
Funeral services for Mr. Howard Thomas Hodges Sr. will be held on Thursday, Oct. 29, at 1 p.m. at Berry Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Wimbish officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family is receiving friends at the residence, 1158 River Road, South Boston.
