Mr. James Paul Young of South Boston passed away Monday, May 26, 2014, at Halifax Regional Hospital.
He was born in Person County, North Carolina on Sept. 24, 1939 and was 74 years old. He was the son of the late Peyton Alvin Young and Frances Melton Young who survives. He was married to Geraldine Vaughan Young.
Mr. Young was a member and deacon at Second Baptist Church, was a 50-year volunteer with the South Boston Fire Department and was a 33-year employee with the Department of Public Works with the Town of South Boston.
In addition to his wife of South Boston, and his mother of Roxboro, North Carolina, survivors include one daughter, Barbara Y. Throckmorton, of South Boston; three sons, James Alvis Young, Craig Paul Young and wife Ashley, all of South Boston, and David Eugene Young of Rustburg; two sisters, Becky Y. Hux of Georgia and Emma Dean Blalock of Roxboro; one brother, Emory Young, of Roxboro; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
One daughter, Jane Young Campa, also preceded Mr. Young in death.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, May 29, 2014, at 2 p.m. at Second Baptist Church with the Rev. Vance Midgett officiating. Burial will follow at Halifax Memorial Gardens with firemen’s rites.
The family will receive friends at Powell Funeral Home on Wednesday evening from 6:30 to 8:30 and other times at the home.
