Roy Woodrow Glass of Halifax died Saturday, May 3, 2014, at Duke University Hospital.
He was born in Halifax County on Feb. 22, 1928 and was 86 years old.
He was the son of the late Richard Norman Glass and Recie King Glass and was married first to the late Ruth Martin Glass and then to Myrtle Morris Glass who survives.
He was a member of the Bible Baptist Church and was retired from the U.S. Air Force as a Master SGT and retired from Camp 23.
Survivors include his wife, Myrtle Morris Glass, of Halifax; one daughter, Lisa Marie Glass, of Camron, North Carolina; one son, Glenn Dale Glass, of Halifax; one sister, Shirley Glass Saunders, of Halifax; one brother, Noel Edward Glass, of Halifax; five step-children; nine step-grandchildren; nine step-great-grandchildren; and two step-great-great-grandchildren.
He also was preceded in death by five sisters, Carrie Lee Glass, Janie Recie Glass, Louise Virginia Glass, Barbara Ann Glass and Recie Ann Glass, and by four brothers, Acie Will Glass, Richard Thomas Glass, Ray Woodrow Glass and Hampton Reed Glass.
Funeral services were held at Powell Funeral Home Chapel on Sunday, May 4, 2014, at 4 p.m. with the Rev. Chris McGhee and the Rev. Jack Stewart officiating. Burial followed at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
The family received friends at Powell Funeral Home one hour prior to the service.
