Mrs. Bernice Overstreet Carden of South Boston died Saturday, April 26, 2014, at the Envoy Nursing Home in Staunton.
She was born in Halifax County on Nov. 7, 1919 and was 94 years old.
She was the daughter of the late George Oscar Overstreet Sr. and the late Nellie Seay Overstreet and was married to the late C. F. “Buster” Carden Jr.
She was a member of Dan River Baptist Church and was a retired bookkeeper from Leggett Department Store credit department.
Mrs. Bernice Overstreet Carden is survived by three daughters, Iris C. Cann and husband Robert, of Alexandria, Sandra C. Chandler and husband Rupert of Stuarts Draft and Gayle C. Hudert and husband John of Santa Clara, California; two brothers, G. Oscar Overstreet Jr. of Clover and Marvis Overstreet of Conway, South Carolina; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law Geneva Carden.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Glenda C. Moore; one grandson, Shane Chandler; and two sisters, Dorothy Hatcher and Evelyn Wilkins.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 29, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Dan River Baptist Church with the Rev. Doug Gibson officiating. Burial will follow in Clover Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Monday, April 28, 2014, from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home.
