Alice Slaughter Overby, 77, widow of John Alvin Overby, passed away Saturday, April 5 , 2014, at Meadowview Terrace Nursing Home.
Alice was born July 4, 1936 to the late H. K. Slaughter and Edna Satterfield Slaughter.
A graduate of Clarksville High School, Alice retired from Burlington Industries in Clarksville after 33 years of service in addition to taking care of her family and working on the family tobacco farm.
Funeral services will be held at Watkins Cooper Lyon at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 8, 2014, with the Rev. Don Wilson officiating. Interment will follow in the Overby Family Cemetery.
Mrs. Overby is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy O. and Glen Klein of Nelson, Kay O. and Rex Gordon of Nelson and Sandra O. and James Limerick of Nelson; her son and daughter in-law, Ronnie and Wanda Overby, of Turbeville; two brothers, Earl Slaughter and Junior Slaughter, both of Nelson; four sisters, Betty Redd of Nelson, Judy Moore of Vernon Hill, Jennie Overby of Buffalo Junction and Dorothy Bagbey of Burlington, N.C.
Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Joe Overby, Jeremy Overby, Allison Satterfield, Kelly Gordon, Savannah Overby, Jessica Barrett and Chad Overby, as well as six great-grandchildren, Brittany Overby, Jacob Overby, Justin Overby, Jaylen Overby, Jenna Overby and Chloe Satterfield.
Alice was preceded in death by three sons, Jerry Overby and Johnny Overby and Melvin Overby Jr., one grandson, Larry Overby, and a brother, George Slaughter.
The family will receive friends at Watkins Cooper Lyon from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. on Monday.
