Mrs. Helen Tucker Bailey Banks of South Boston died Monday, March 24, 2014, at Berry Hill Nursing Home at the age of 72.
Mrs. Banks was born in Halifax County on April 4, 1941 to the late Mr. Cleveland Tucker Sr. and Mrs. Louise Edmunds Tucker. She was married to the late Mr. Corence Edward Banks.
Survivors include four sons, Mr. Vincent Bailey, Mr. Lynn Bailey and wife Peggy, all of Ft. Washington, Md., and Mr. Lorenzo Bailey and Mr. Alvin Bailey, both of South Boston; six sisters, Mrs. Annie Bates of Clinton, Md., Mrs. Ellen Harris and husband James of Woodbridge, Mrs. Mattie Bates and husband Maurice of Brandywine, Md., Mrs. Mamie Irving and husband Darnell of Shadyside, Md., Ms. Mollie Tucker of Elizabeth, Ky., and Mrs. Janetta Sydnor and husband Michael of South Boston; 25 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband and parents, one daughter, Mrs. Ernestine Hall, and one son, Mr. Jerome Bailey, also preceded Mrs. Banks in death.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 29, at 2 p.m. at Mt. Olive Baptist Church with the Rev. Leonard Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Michael and Janetta Sydnor, 1893 Farragut Avenue, South Boston.
Public viewing will be Friday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Jeffress Funeral Home chapel.
