Juliette Evelyn Canada Glass Jones of Lynchburg began her dance in the Floyd Ward Revue on the stage of the Academy of Fine Arts and danced her way into the arms of her heavenly Father on the “Island filled with animals” on March 20, 2014.
Born July 21, 1934 in her family’s home on Russell Street in Lynchburg, Juliette was the youngest of four children of the late Lawrence Marshall and Ruby Wilkins Canada.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her two sisters, Marjorie Canada and Jane Canada Greenwood, and one brother, Pete Holmes Canada.
Juliette is survived by her four children, Marjette Upshur and husband T of Lynchburg, James T. Glass Jr. of Atlanta, Georgia, Darryl Glass and wife Lynn and Lamar Glass of Lynchburg; five grandchildren, James T. Glass III and wife Cordelia of Ellsworth, South Dakota, Carmen Glass, Carson Glass, Amber Davidson and Jamie Hutcherson; and one great-granddaughter, Eva Glass. daughter-in-law Cathy Glass; sister-in-law Sarah Hewlett; niece Joy Faust; and nephews David and Kevin Canada.
Juliette also is survived by Rudy, Tabby and Rosity, her most special feline companions.
Juliette served her community by volunteering for the following organizations: Friday Cheers, United Way, ABWA, Old City Cemetery, Lynchburg Symphony Orchestra, Jefferson Choral Society and Opera on the James.
Juliette worked at N&W Industries, WLVA and retired from Simplimatic Engineering in 1997. Juliette was a graduate of E.C. Glass High School Class of 52 and attended the UNC Women’s College at Greensboro and the University of Tennessee.
Juliette was known for her steadfast character, strong work ethic and unconditional love and support for those fortunate enough to have crossed her path. She never met a stranger. She enjoyed her friends at Charley’s, the “lunch bunch” and water aerobics at the YMCA.
She was an incredible mother, grandmother and friend. Juliette left everything better than she found it.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes memorial contributions be made to the Lynchburg Humane Society Development and Outreach Coordinator, 3305 Naval Reserve Road Lynchburg, VA 24501.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Monday, March 24, 2014, at Heritage Funeral Service, 427 Graves Mill Road.
A celebration of Juliette’s life will be held 11 a.m., Tuesday, March 25, 2014, in the chapel of Heritage Funeral Service.
