Halifax County Sheriff Fred S. Clark on Friday promoted five employees in the sheriff’s office. 

Unbalanced IDA budget approved

After operating without an adopted budget since July 1, the Halifax County Industrial Development Authority on Friday adopted an unbalanced  2012-13 operating budget that includes $2,485,315.68 in income and $2,522.948.20 in expenses.

Fundraiser falls shy, but still called a ‘good day’

Vernon Hill man pleads guilty to receiving stolen property

A 31-year old Vernon Hill man pleaded guilty Tuesday in Halifax County Circuit Court to one felony charge of receiving stolen property and a probation violation, according to court records.

A 49-year-old Semora, N.C. woman has been charged with failure to yield the right of way following a two-vehicle wreck that occurred Sunday at 4:15 p.m. on Highway 58, two-tenths of a mile west of State Route 836.

Man found dead; cigarette suspected in bedroom fire
