Police brought in to probe fire at pool house

The American Legion Post 8 swimming pool on Jeffress Street in South Boston is closed until further notice, according to American Legion Commander Tommy Whitlow.

Woman injured in wreck

A 56-year-old Scottsburg woman was injured and taken to Halifax Regional Hospital following a two-vehicle wreck that occurred Tuesday at 7:39 a.m. on State Route 720, two miles south of Highway 360.

School retirees' lawsuit essentially tossed in court

After months of frustration, Halifax County School retirees are getting their day in court this morning at 9:30 when Halifax County School Board members will face the 105 former public school employees and Local Optional Retirement Plan retirees in Halifax County Circuit Court during a motions hearing in the civil case.

Bond resolution adopted

The Halifax County Service Authority Board of Directors approved a bond resolution allowing the sale of a $2,465,000 water and sewer system bond to the Virginia Resource Authority in order to finance the Cowford Road, Terry’s Creek and Lasco projects.

Four vehicles involved in Wednesday accident

A 75-year-old Amherst man, Edwin C. Falls, was charged with reckless driving/failure to maintain proper control following a four-vehicle wreck that occurred Wednesday morning at the intersection of Route 360 (Bethel Road) and U.S. Highway 360 sending five people to the hospital with minor injuries.
