Motorcyclist airlifted after Sunday afternoon wreck

Lifeflight airlifted a motorcyclist to Duke University Medical Center from a nearby landing zone following a two-vehicle wreck that occurred on Bold Springs Road (State Route 706) on Sunday afternoon involving his motorcycle and an older-model Chevrolet Silverado truck.

According to Cluster Springs Fire Chief Mike Harris, it appeared the driver of the motorcycle “laid it over” in front of the pick-up truck, and the driver of the truck didn’t have time to stop before the truck ran over the motorcycle and the driver.

The driver of the pick-up sustained no injuries, Harris said.

Virginia State Police, deputies from the Halifax County Sheriff’s Department, EMS personnel and three trucks from Cluster Springs Fire Department carrying 10 members responded to the wreck shortly after 1 p.m.

Bold Springs Road was closed briefly following the wreck.

Virginia State Police were continuing an investigation into the wreck. No further details were available at press time Sunday.
