The Halifax County Industrial Development Authority (IDA) was awarded a $1,140,535 Southside Economic Development Grant from the Virginia Tobacco Indemnification and Community Revitalization Commission for Phase III of the Green View Advanced Manufacturing rehabilitation project.
The tobacco commission approved the grant for the former Daystrom building on Tuesday at its meeting in Richmond, according to IDA officials.
The $1,140,535 grant will assist in providing a secure shell space for advanced manufacturing and workforce training as well as space for pilot line commercialization of start-up industries and product research and development.
The authority has previously completed Phase I and is currently working to complete Phase II of the Green View Project.
Following the completion of Phase III, the Green View facility will have a new roof on the entire 360,000 square foot facility.
Portions of the building will have been cleaned and painted on the interior, with a new façade and parking lot improvements.
