A single-vehicle crash Sunday morning in Phenix claimed the life of a Brookneal man.
Casey Clowdis, 29, was killed in the crash that occurred shortly after 6 a.m.
At 6:22 a.m., Virginia State Police Senior Trooper W. J. Wilborn Jr. responded to the scene of the single-vehicle crash that occurred on Highway 40 at the intersection of State Route 727 in Charlotte County.
According to an accident report filed by Wilborn, Clowdis was traveling southbound in a 1994 Ford Taurus on State Route 727 at a high rate of speed and failed to stop at the posted stop sign on State Route 727, where it intersects with Highway 40.
The car ran through the intersection and off the right side of the road where it overturned several times, the report stated.
Clowdis, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was thrown from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation at this time, Wilborn said.
