Man airlifted after wreck

A 61-year-old Scottsburg man was airlifted to Lynchburg General Hospital on Monday afternoon after being extricated from a single-vehicle wreck that occurred shortly after noon on Dryburg Road.

Charles Elliott was driving a Chevrolet Impala when it ran off the road striking several trees before coming to a stop.

According to witnesses on the scene, Elliott has a history of seizures and was near his residence when the accident occurred.

An EMT at the scene reported Elliott was conscious when he was extricated from the vehicle and in much pain.

A Halifax County Rescue Squad unit transported Elliott from the wreck scene to Scottsburg Volunteer Fire Department where he was loaded onto Centra One Monday afternoon.

Back at the scene of the wreck on Dryburg Road, a representative of Beard’s Auto Repair worked to cut away trees so the Impala could be loaded onto an awaiting rollback.

Virginia State Trooper A. D. Sargent investigated the wreck, but no accident report was available at press time Tuesday evening.

A spokesman at Lynchburg General Hospital said Tuesday morning Elliott was in “stable condition.”
